Insole Court has been ranked as Wales’ top ‘hidden gem’ location on a global list.

Wales takes seventh place worldwide for the most number of ‘hidden gems’

15 Welsh destinations made it onto the global list of gems.

A new study conducted by Tour Operator Software Provider Bókun (part of the Tripadvisor family) has uncovered the real local ‘hidden gem’ locations worldwide, as recommended by tourists.

Whilst viral videos on social media are great for bringing huge attention to some of the lesser-travelled destinations worldwide, it can often be hard for travellers to plan an entire trip around a single video.

To help travellers make the jump from their phones to the real world, Bókun has examined over 1,000 local destinations using Tripadvisor reviews containing the phrase ‘hidden gem’. This analysis reveals the best places to travel worldwide, according to real consumers.

Insole Court ranks eighth best ‘hidden gem’ location worldwide, and first place for Wales

The historic site clearly made a big impact on tourists, ranking as the number one ‘hidden gem’ destination in Wales, with 19% of total tourist reviews singing its praises.

Taking first place was England with 33% of total wonders, the United States of America came in second place (31%), followed by third-place being Ireland (6%).

Among the Welsh locations recognised on the list were Castell y Bere, Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens, Dewstow Gardens and the 1950s Museum. This recognition shines a spotlight on Wales’ cultural roots, placing it amongst some very esteemed wonders.
