Principality Stadium is ranked 3rd in UK’s Top 5 most accessible sports stadium

A new report has ranked the UK’s biggest stadiums for accessibility.

Ranked in third place was the Principality Stadium, in Cardiff, with an accessibility score of 6.86 out of 10. Located in the heart of the city, the stadium is the riverside home of the Welsh Rugby Union and has also held football matches for the Welsh national team. The stadium has a capacity of 73,391 – which includes three accessible seating areas.

Principality Stadium also offers closed captioning and BSL interpretation. Principality Stadium is also only one of two UK stadiums that provides wheelchair rentals and assistance.

How the rankings were made: Casino.com’s researchers looked at the largest-capacity stadiums across the UK to find the best event spaces based on a number of accessibility factors. They awarded each stadium points for the following features:

  • Number of accessible seating areas
  • Number of accessible parking lots
  • Shuttle bus availability
  • Walking distance (minutes) from closest public transport station/stop
  • Wheelchair rental availability
  • Closed captioning
  • Sign language interpretation
  • Accessible restrooms
  • Number of elevators

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium ranks as the most accessible stadium in the UK, with an overall accessibility score of 7.73/10! Home to the football club of the same name, the stadium has a capacity of 62,850, making it the third-largest football stadium in England.

Is Wembley Stadium accessible?

Wembley Stadium takes second place in the accesibility ranking, with an accessibility score of 7.03.

With 310 wheelchair-accessible seats split across three levels, and 147 accessible toilets, Wembley Stadium ranks well for accessibility although there is some room for improvement given Wembley is one of the nation’s flagship stadiums. The UK’s largest stadium also offers an accessible shuttle service and audio description headsets.
